The SSA UK recognise that there are far more external storage offerings than just containers and the importance of capturing all external storage in a consistent manner.

Chaired by Chris Bryan of blue self storage, these meetings are designed to support our external storage members.  We recognise many external storage and container operators offer a high standard of quality and this sector forum will ensure that these members are fully recognised within the industry for the part they play, including offering choice to customers. The meetings also allow the opportunity to discuss topics relevant specifically to external storage, and share any tips, opinions, and lessons learnt with like-minded individuals.

If you are an external storage or container operator or a supplier to these companies, then these sector forum meetings will be of interest to you.

Complimentary to attend, meetings will be held 2-3 times per year and are open to all SSA UK and FEDESSA members.  Currently, all meetings will be held online via Zoom.

In this month's meeting, we will be talking about planning!

SSA UK Board Chairman and owner of blue self storage Chris Bryan will be joined by Adam Tuck and Vaughan Bryan from planning consultants, Cheffins, who in recent months have been very successful in helping several operators with their planning applications and appeals.

One of the biggest barriers for new sites and stores is gaining planning permission. Whether you are new to the industry and looking to open your first site, opening another store or just expanding an existing one, there's no doubt you've had to deal with your local authority and spoken about planning, or have you...?

As well as answering SSA UK members’ questions, during the webinar, Adam and Vaughan hope to deliver a brief presentation that provides general guidance on the following topics, with a stronger emphasis on planning across England and Wales:

  • Why and when planning permission is needed.
  • Navigation through the planning system (e.g. requirements for application validation and maximising the chances of success).
  • Self storage sites and the planning system: addressing the issues.
  • Retrospective planning and enforcement cases.
  • Planning Appeals and the planning balance.
